New Poetry: Fresh Eyes

I promised you new poetry this weekend, and I am delivering on that promise! Here's one that's different, about a person and a subject that I rarely if ever have touched. It's called Fresh Eyes. Please comment and critique if you like! I've missed connecting with you guys so much lately. Here's the new poem... and stay tuned for more (on a happier theme!) next week.

Fresh Eyes

Seemingly
unfair
somehow
that you
didn't get
a chance
to open
your
eyes.

I spoke
the words
but they
did not
stick,
and now
we'll never
know.

Truth—
I should
not write
about you.
You were
so angry
and your
words
hurt so
many.
The
phrases
in death
will still
sting.

But I
remember
the better
days.
A time
when you
weren't
full of hate.

And I hope
that you
stand there
with her now,
seeing us all
with fresh eyes.
I hope there is
forgiveness
after this life.

And I hope
you found
a piece of that
when you arrived.
