Opposing Sides — a poem about acceptance and integration of self

Opposing Sides

The classic tales will lead a child to believe
that reality and wishes are on opposing teams,
that desires and dreams differ
from day jobs and responsibilities,
and that yesterday and today
cannot be printed on the same page.

In the stillness of a better dimension,
I find that these concepts are allies
and in fact do not fight on opposing sides.

What inner revolution might occur
if I accepted both my cravings
and the nourishment I receive—
if I embraced both the ultimate
and the most mundane in me?

So I stop resisting.
I integrate my two halves
and my myriad facets.
Let them gleam,
let them shine
in the light.

I am loving.
I am loved.
I am enough.
