Rehabilitation - NaPoWriMo Day #3 - a poem about healing mind, body, and soul
I have barely begun to tell the story of the past year and a half, of everything that has happened to my partner and our families in that time span, other than this singular tweet exactly one year ago:
Re: My social media break. I've been fully immersed in the real world since my partner had a stroke on Jan 16th. Full days in ICU, then living at inpatient rehab with her. Home now, returning to some normalcy, but still wanting to keep this minimal. How's life been treating you?

There is beauty in this story. So much of it needs to be let out, needs to be shared, needs to be celebrated. So much good has come out of this and I believe it will continue to do so. I haven’t written nearly enough, but this is a hint of it, just a bite sized piece of the overwhelming whole. It is a start. And I hope you find as much meaning and healing within it as we have found in this experience.
Rehabilitation
The whispers of soft, gentle love
breeze through dusty hallways,
sweeping them fresh and clean.
The hush grows to a roar,
billowing curtains
and opening doors.
This isn't just a hospital anymore.
It is a second home,
a house of new beginnings.
My heart, once cracked, now full of life.
Your brain and body on the mend.
Our contacts filled with new lifelong friends.
Maximizing recovery
of two traumatized souls.
Forever changed for the better,
now and evermore whole.
