Elation in Black and White - NaPoWriMo Day #7 - a poem for the photographers, artists, and dreamers
You train your lens
on the historied land
and showcase the contrast
between the light and the dark.
You don't see your talent,
don't see your skill,
but I do. We all do.
It's clear and bright and shining,
beckoning all to open weary eyes
and find elation in black and white.
I long to stroll, slack and slovenly,
pajama-clad and couldn't care less,
so relaxed we're unaware of all else,
through hallways polka-dotted
with your photographic oddities.
I long to cook you breakfast
in the same cozy kitchen
where I'll cook up my next book idea.
Dinner parties with creative friends,
laughter and singing that never ends.
Imagine a world like that.
Imagine it and breathe life into it.
Keep breathing and breathing
until we find our hearts beating
in sync with the seasons—
and soon it all
makes perfect sense
once again.
Imagine elation
in black and white
and full color,
around the clock
and all year-round.
Imagine it right,
make an imprint.
Imagine it right
till it's in print.
