Who You'll Be Apart - NaPoWriMo, Day 10

Well, I broke my streak! I missed a day. I didn't want to skip it altogether but I felt it would be disingenuous to write one on day 11 and call it day 10. So here is one from the vault that hasn't been shared yet. Today's NaPoWriMo effort will be coming up later tonight.

Human hearts are far too flawed

to handle the gift of love.

We attempt the task ourselves each day

but we know that we're ill equipped.

At least we've got the benefit of years behind us

to strengthen our resolve

and give us confidence in each other.

I can't imagine starting fresh, like you tried to do.

Trying to solidify something so free-flowing —

forging paper contracts from the love letters of the soul —

reigning in the natural tendencies of songbirds who love to soar.

Watching these two beautiful spirits give up and let go

is a sad moment for two who loved flying with you —

who were inspired by you —

who will miss you.

A eulogy for who you were together,

with hope and love for who you'll be apart.
