Heaven (Peach Haze) - NaPoWriMo Day #1
Heaven (Peach Haze)
It felt a lot like heaven—
those sunny, sultry days.
I remember kissing lips like clouds
in the afternoon peach haze—
the room as filled with sunlight
as we were with youth and desire.
Your body, warm.
Your scent, clean.
Your arms wrapped
around every bit of me.
Our minds on only one
and yet a billion things.
Upstairs,
upstairs,
that place of dreams.
Baring it all in broad daylight,
windows open, curtains billowing,
wind sweeping through
like I swept over you.
And we laughed
and we loved
and we hovered on the precipice
of something I truly should have embraced
if only my brain could stay in one place.
But I second guessed
and doubled regrets
and understood
this was not a yes.
It was not a forever.
It was a for now.
But in that tiny time
in a hopefully long life,
you managed to teach me things
that I will never leave behind:
To respect and stand up for myself.
To express and not suppress myself.
To love myself and others
in both light and in dark.
To not waste my talents and gifts
on those who don't ignite from my spark.
And you didn't catch fire,
but you glowed a bit.
You were worth the trip
and I thank you for it.
