I Have a Voice - NaPoWriMo Day #19

I have a voice
and I haven't been using it.

I've been tumbling through
page after page
of personal pain,
and maybe that will help someone,
but there is a larger aim.

I'm a singer,
a lyricist,
a poet,
a writer.
I am female.
Feminist.
LGBT.
Anti-racism.
Anti-bullying.
Cannabis activist.
I am all these things.
So many passions,
so many dreams.

It is easy to dive headlong
into the tragedies that shaped me
individually,
but writing about
the larger causes that drive me
will challenge,
will strengthen,
will heal
myself and others.

Beyond a tweet,
beyond a blurb,
I should be unafraid
to pen volumes
on the topics
that most need
to be heard.

I have a voice
and I will use it.
