Silent Movies - NaPoWriMo Day 20
Silent Movies
Dandelions.
Daisies.
Sunlight from the east
through morning lark squints
and wide night owl eyes.
Laughter.
Pretty presence—
mindlessness and mindfulness—
the kind that only a child
can access
and innocently
take for granted.
Smiles.
Signs.
Love and lies.
Secrets gold and wise.
The village mockingbird
and the Cape May warbler—
both still babies, both still sweet.
Cartoons and popsicles,
coloring and singing.
Holidays and lucky stars,
rush-rushing, spellbound,
toward the promise of a new day.
Silent movies now,
but vibrant and booming back then.
I'll bring the yellow fingerpaint
and you bring the banana daiquiris.
The dandelions and daisies
are right where they used to be.
